A Trip to the Park....BRRRRR

We decided to venture out today in the snow with the sleds to our favorite park. It was a spur of the moment decision and I don't think we realized just how cold it was outside - - - BRRRR - - - my gloved fingers were freezing!

The boys however, weren't the slightest bit bothered by the freezing temperatures trudging up and down the hills.
I decided to warm my fingers by snapping a few things that caught my eye in the snowy white snow.
Cold toes - very C:O:L:D toes!

I love the whiteness of the snow and how it frames the last of the oak leaves.

It's quite possible this will be my last post of 2009, so I'd like to wish you all a very Happy New Year. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and leaving such lovely comments - they really are a big highlight to my day. I am excited about the new year, it always feels like a fresh new start.

Cabin Quilting with a Cat

Pumpkin and I have been conquering the quilting log cabin......well occasionally it has conquered us, but nothing that some quick unpicking can't fix.

Thank you Little J for this lovely Christmas pressie fabric. I a big fat jelly roll of 2 1/2 inch batik strips.

Lovely pre-cut strips.......sorry no before photo of the roll - remember, patience and I are not friends :-)

If my calculations are right I'll be able to make 25 of these cabins which are about 11" x 13".

A nice small quilt to hand stitch............possibly to go down under to my lovely sis??? :-)

Poor Pumpkin after completing 15 cabins is completely exhausted and decided to take a nap.....on the cabins of course!

Christmas Eve

Just stopped by quickly to wish everyone a V::E::R::Y Merry Christmas and all the best to you, your family and your loved ones! All is quiet at the Gephart now and Little J is tucked up in bed desperate to go to sleep so Father Christmas can stop by and the big day will be here faster! I am enjoying the peace of the Eve and my lovely birthday yarn.

I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow and Father Christmas brings you your wishes!

Apple for the Teacher

I surely hope Little J's teacher loves this as much as I do! Mrs. DW has been absolutely wonderful with Little J this year (one of those teachers who make a real difference) and I am sure she will L::O::V::E it! Not too shabby for one nights work - especially in a mad rush on the night before the last day of school before the Christmas holidays.

Just a little pencil case filled with some lovely new pencils.
Merry Christmas Mrs. DW!!!!
***** Just in case I'm not back before the big day or you're not back for a visit before then - I wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas! :-) ******

18 inches!

When all was said and done yesterday, I think we finised with about 18inches of snow. Today we have been shovelling and sledding and enjoying the snow! More snow forecasted for Friday.....fingers tightly crossed the weatherman is right :-)

9 inches?

Today's agenda: sledding, shoveling and snowman building.

When I woke up this morning at 4am, we had about 3 inches. It hasn't stopped snowing since I climbed out of bed at 6:30am. So based on the weather forecast, we have 7 more inches to go. Thank goodness I was brave last night and fought the madness at the supermarket to get some supplies in for the weekend. No sign of the snowplow on our street yet, which is not a good sign as we are an access road to the main interstate and the national guard armory! However, at this point, 9:00am, I am loving the snow!!!

** Time **

Thank you for all the lovely birthday wishes. I apologize to all the lovely blogs I visit on a regular basis for not leaving more comments recently. Time is being stolen from me on a daily basis as we race toward the big "C" day. My poor blog has been sadly neglected too. We are however forecasted to receive up to 16 inches of snow in the next 24 hours so I am sure I'll have plenty of time to catch up with Bloggerville.

:: Forty-Two ::

Yep....another year older today. I know this may seem hard to believe, but I was actually up for almost an hour before I remembered! I've been so focused on Christmas that the day nearly past me by. Mr. VW and the J's reminded me with a lovely birthday song and a marvelous parcel of scrumtious yarn!
Anyway, this is really a Christmas post as I am quite delighted with my tree this year and I just had to share. Of course it looks way better in real life!!! The tree is just about all the decorating we do, although outside the house has a few pathetic lights on the front verandah.
One Little Christmas Quilt complete - quite happy with this, although don't look too closely at the crap hand stitching!

One Dozen snowflake ornaments from Lucy's tutorial!

One Middle J handmade stocking - I made this when I was on maternity leave after the arrival of Little J.

One Lovely (fake) Tree!

I realize that as much as I wanted to post the photo of the stocking, I couldn't come up with a creative way to cover up Middle J's real name - but I just love the way the stocking turned out so many years ago, I posted it anyway. So the gig is up - three boys with J names. Big J (James), Middle J (Jacob) and Little J (Jack). Not even the least bit intentional. Complete coincidence.
Happy weekend!

Let it Snow!

Little J was squealing with excitement to wake up and see the white fluffy stuff this morning! He was not alone, so was I!

Time to change the flag I think!

The poor little snapdragons I posted about earlier this week are covered in a very thick blanket of snow. They are in baskets attached to the veranda railings which have disappeared under the snow! A rather shocking way for them to find out it's winter!
Remember this view a few posts back? Hard to believe this is the view in my back yard now!
I won't be hanging any washing up today!
I L::O::V::E the first snow of winter! :-)

It's the last month of the year already, hard to believe winter is really here and Christmas is just around the corner! We've barely had but a flake or two of snow in our parts which is unusual, but my work colleagues in Juarez, Mexico tell me they had 3 inches on Monday! What on earth is going on in this world?
Last night, after failed attempts to take photos of the magnificent full moon, I noticed something a little out of place for December.......
:: White Snapdragon ::

:: Yellow Snapdragon ::

:: Pink Snapdragon ::

I don't ever remember these guys hanging around until December. But I was so thankful for their lovely colour and a reminder that spring will be back again some day.

After admiring their lovely colour, I quickly went back inside and started on some simple Christmas stitching, just to remind myself it is December :-)
