A Little Crochet Colour

Just a little crochet colour. I wanted a case for my glasses and felt like I needed crochet colour fix. This little case, albeit a bit wonky, took about an hour and was made up as a went along.

A little colour fix always cheers me up.
Happy Weekend folks!

Note to Self

Note to self :: when creating your own pattern for something which requires you to make two that are identical, write D O W N the pattern! Your 40 something brain has no chance of remembering it. Needless to say, the wrist warmers, although functional are not quite identical. :-)
Still intrigued by this whole knitting business. This weeks goal - learn how to increase stitches!

Look Up & Look Right

Quite pleased with my new header/title. Just a couple of nights work. What do you think? Pretty sure you had already figured it out from my last two posts.

Finally figured out the slide show! See it over there on the right? Yippee!!!

Peaks

No luck today figuring out the slide show thingy for me Daffs - actually no time to figure it out, too busy with other distractions (peaks) and after working from home it seems like the work day never really ends. So for one more day, please bear with me and another snap off the Daffs. Of course after the white stuff fell last night, I had to do a little poking around in the snow to find them.

So again to compensate for the enduring the Daffs again, a few peaks of my new project. Which I am V E R Y excited about. Of course it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what it is.

Happy Weekend Folks! Make the most of it, relax and enjoy - I guarantee you that Monday will be back :-)

It's Gone....

The funk is definitely gone, thank goodness. Three days of blogging in a row are clearly a sign. Now yesterday, I vowed to photograph my daffs everyday. Unfortunately that means I either need to post the photo everyday or figure out how to make a slide show to put on my sidebar.....hmmm....both sound like a challenge. So, I'll try to only bore you with one more actual post of their growth and hopefully master the slide show tomorrow.
Day Two - The Daffodils.

Now to compensate you for a rather uninspiring photo of the daffs, here are a couple of peaks of my newest project :-)

Wishing you lovely readers a very happy Friday!

P.S. Just had a quick peak out the window! Where the heck did those two inches of snow come from????

Lookie!!!!

In the mad dash that is the weekday mornings here at the Gephart, whilst trying to encourage a rather rotund ginger moggy to come back into the house before we left for work, what do you think I spotted in the garden????
The D a f f s!!!!!
They're poking their little leaves through the ground already - even after I said yesterday it would be months before I see them. The sight of them had me smiling from ear to ear...grinning with joy......regardless of the fact that my assistant refused to leave the safety of the hedge.

Of course upon arrival home after a frustrating day at the office, I stopped to enjoy them again and decided I would take a snap everyday to watch them grow. The meer sight of them even inspired me to clean my sewing table up. I'll save the shock of the before photo and just show the after. Of course my assistant was quite helpful in the cleaning process - look how proud he is!
Happy Thursday folks!

Here They Be

Well I *think* (fingers crossed tightly) the funk is starting to lift. Thanks so much to Jane and Kate for their kind words of encouragement. Just exactly how did Jane know that the sight/thought of daffodils would cheer me up? I have been optimistically been looking for signs of them in my garden, although I know it will be months before they poke their little heads out of the ground.
Over the last year this bloggerville community I have joined has never ceased to amaze me. How the kind words of a total stranger can cheer someone so much? Whether in their blog posts or sweet comments. Thank you bloggerville friends, you have bought me so much sunshine these last twelve months.
Now, on to business. Remember in between the gloomy words of yesterday's post I mentioned two completed projects??? Well spurred on my the thought of those daffodils, i was anxious to get home this evening, determined to post photos of them, regardless of the crap lighting and the fact my poor family might be screaming for their tea. Luckily for me, Mr. VW (whom I found out does actually read this blog - hello honey!) had the dinner perfectly timed to be ready the moment Little J and I crashed in the door. Both Little J and Mr. VW were very obliging to hold said completed projects while I attempted to capture their finished glory!
....so here they are :-)
1. Log Cabin Quilt

2. Lovely, although smallish Car Crochet blanket. (Lots of ows and ahs from Little J while he held it up - I guess little 8 year old arms do get a wee bit tired whilst Mummy takes 11 photos)

Now, just in case you thought I had abandoned my dip in the knitting pool again, just a quick reveal on almost completed scarf! Not too shabby eh? Haven't made any catastrophic mistakes -YET- still time for that I am sure. One 5oz ball of wool down - one more to go? Well maybe not the whole ball. Hoping to eek some wrist warmers out of it too. :-)
Well I must run now as it appears that my assistant Pumpkin is attempting to break into the linen closet. Now normally I would not be concerned by his attempt to explore the disaster that is my linen closet, however he has taken to chewing holes in clothes and other items. Does anyone have any idea what would possess a rather large ginger cat to chew a hole the size of my hand in my almost brand new cardigan? Or attempt to eat the toes out of Mr. VW sock?
Wishing you all a lovely Wednesday....I'm off to rescue my bed sheets.

One Hundred

I have been a real funk this week, in fact, this whole year and even this decade so far I have been in a real funk. (Thankfully we are only 18 days into the latter two) This post (not these words & photos of course) has been in my head 15 times a day everyday since my last post. It has been started 8 times and deleted 7 times. 8th time's a charm???? I really wanted to do a mosaic with my photos from the last year - but I could not for the life of me figure out how to make one! It just added to my 2010 funk, which I am desperately trying to shake. It's the kinda funk that makes you want to lay on the couch and channel surf the telly all day long. I think it might be work (employment) related, so I won't bother going there.
Anyway, funk aside, I did have quite a good day today - for a Monday. Mostly because I had the day off work and I managed to finish two projects! Unfortunately I don't have any good photos of them, so sorry about that.

A lovely crochet project I have not yet shared on this blog is finished. I actually started this with scraps of wool long before my birthday blanket (which thanks to my funk hasn't been touched in weeks). This blanket is actually for Mr. VW's car. We always carry a blanket in the car as we tend to frequently embark on long journeys which require Little J to nap under a snugly blanket.

Of course getting it out from under my assistant Pumpkin and into the car maybe a challenge!

The binding has been machine sewn and hand stitched to my log cabin quilt made from Christmas pressie fabric. My favorite part of making a quilt is the hand stitching of the binding.

I have done most of the top stitching on this quilt by hand. I love to snugle under it in the evenings while watching the telly. It hasn't been easy to hand stitch due to the size and the fact that the four hounds also like to snuggle under/on top of anything I am working on!

Well I suppose I should mention this is my 100th post and I have been at this blogging business for 1 year now. I was hoping this would be a 'brilliant' post to celebrate this victory, but I fear that post still tangled in my head along with the funk. I'm determined that post 101 will be the post of my dreams and I will have shaken this funk.
Happy Monday! I hope you haven't caught the 2010 funk.......and if you have a cure for it, please let me know!!!!

Knitting again?

Yes I'm dabbling in the world of knitting again. Don't fret, something simple - a scarf. Of course I'm not using a pattern (still can't read them) and have created my own 'pattern' after making my first mistake on row four. :-) I always thought knitting was a slow process, however after spending 9 hours in the car yesterday, my scarf is now long enough to go half way round my neck!

Now I REALLY need to learn how to read a pattern. If by chance you know if a good book or website that would help me learn, the link/details would be greatly appreciated!
Happy Sunday :-)

From the window

Few words today, just photos from the window of the office/sewing room. School was closed today due to frigid temperatures, so with Little J off school I am working from home. I love the paw prints in the snow.

The weather man says we're in for even lower temperatures this weekend.
How many days until Spring???

2010

Well I am a bit behind on welcoming the new year, the days seemed to have slipped away so fast and my poor blog neglected again. The bitter cold we have been experiencing has not helped as I just want to spend hours wrapped in a blanket watching the telly.
Anyway, with the holidays sadly over, I finally have some time to blog and enjoy the lovely gifts I received for Christmas - most notably from my wonderful wonderful boss. I have worked with her for almost 13 years as her executive assistant (sounds important doesn't it? not really, just means i know very well what she likes for lunch :-) ) Anyway, after all these years we now have moments when we think and say the same thing at the same time quite frequently! So needless to say she is absolutely brilliant at choosing gifts for me!!! So I thought I would share just a couple of the lovely items she was so generous with and which I squealed with delight when I opened them. Yes I really did squeal - the other girls in the office were rather alarmed!

1. Fossil Bag - unbeknown to my boss I had been eyeing this bag in our towns one and only department store for weeks. I cannot recall the number of times I picked it up to purchase it, only to put it down again after reviewing the price tag!
2. Little Owl Fossil Purse - this is THE item that caused me to squeal! I grin from ear to ear every time I take it out of my bag - I even take it out to just look at it and stroke it's lovely soft leather. Isn't it F : A : B ????
3. Fabulous Crochet Book - I love looking at the photos, just now I need to figure out how to read the patterns!
4. Wonderful Applique Book - just a few of my favorite pages.

.....beautiful fabrics in this book, shame we don't have wonderful stores in our town that stock such fab prints.....
.....super sweet watermelon pin cushion.....first on my list to try!

Didn't she do good? Particularly good I think for someone who isn't particularly crafty or into crochet.
Sorry again for the crap photos. Its fairly safe to say there will be no good photos on my weekday posts until the spring when I actually make it home before the sun sets.
I must thank the lovely Annalisa for the blog award she has given me. It's my first and I am not quite certain how to handle it....so I will have to give it a think.
I am looking forward to another exciting year adding to this blog....I will have been at this blog business for a whole year at the end of this month and have met some of the most wonderful people and enjoying the most beautiful stories and photos. Thank you bloggerville friends!
Oh and before I forget.....Happy 2010!
