My 200 Squares Quilt :: Finished!

Actually it's only 196 squares, but I cut out 200 if anyone is counting.
My little assistant...
Loads of hand stitching finally done....phew!!!

Just one more photo a.k.a. torturing Little J......
Sally follows me everywhere, especially to the bedroom.  She loves to get under the covers to hide and sleep her days away.  Each morning she goes from room to room 'unmaking' the beds to find her comfiest spot - bit like Goldilocks.  But with a face like that, how can I be mad?
It almost fits my bed....almost....and Sally is contemplating her dive beneath the covers.
This quilt is made entirely from my stash.  I love to buy fat quarters when they go on sale for a dollar.  The edge is made from fabric I found on clearance for $2 a yard.
I l♥ve this quilt!

The Grist Mill @ Stratford Hall

On our last trip away in the caravan, we took another visit to Stratford Hall, the birthplace of Robert E. Lee.  We were lucky this time as the Grist Mill was in operation.  It was absolutely fascinating to watch.
Little J seeing if he can pop the grist stone in the truck and sneak it home.

The waterwheel turned off.
 The waterwheel in action!

 The 'on/off' switch.

 The stone in action!

Fresh made (and for sale) cornflour.
A few steps outside the mill, the Potomac River.
Hunting for shark teeth.....a few found, no photographic evidence I'm afraid.
If you are ever in Westmoreland County, Virgina I highly recommend a visit to Stratford Hall.  It is an amazing place.

Red Apples

Our apples are ready!

Ok well they may be a tiny bit tart, but a few were on the ground and I couldn't resist trying them.
They are super yummy stewed and eaten while still warm with vanilla ice cream!

De-beiging = Adding Colour

We had a little time away this weekend in our fancy new caravan.  Our first caravan I might add.  A new to us caravan, but not new caravan. It's nothing fancy, not vintagey but it's a lovely little home away from home on wheels.

We took a little jaunt down to the old summer house to see Big J (who's been down in Virginia for the summer) and to spend a few days away.  I've been working from home all summer and I was ready to escape the confines of my tiny house for a change of scenery.
Here she is!
She doesn't have a name...and she appears huge in the photo, but really isn't.
Now while the Mister, Big J and Little J were paddling up the river on the Misters new toy (see it there floating on the water?) aka 'The Tinny', I set to work getting the beige out of my little house on wheels.
Of course my de-beiging was interrupted by the menfolk returning, tales of fishes caught, fishes that got away and the thump thump thump of enormous rain drops during some amazing thunderstorms.

But mostly my de-beiging enjoyed sunny skies and sweltering humidity.
It's amazing how de-beiging can make one oblivious to the blistering humidity.

So....please excuse my one and only totally crap before photo.  I swear there were others, but they were apparently deleted in the process of the Mister taking 102 photos of his new 'tin can boat'.
See the beigy swirly ghastly pelmet thingy on my caravany window?
Now who wants to look at that on their caravan get away jollies?
Not me.....
Bring on one small sweet sewing machine, some red fabric and some fabulous chickens to conquer the beige.

And..................Ta Dah!
Chickens for the table window...

Chickens for the top bunk window......

And chickens for the bottom bunk window.....

There is another window with even more chickens, but the photo has mysteriously disappeared. But I did remember to take a photo of this fabulous rainbowness of storage containers!

Of course the caravan still has many many more beige-ness covered items, but those photos are MIA.  There are plans for new seat covers, some sink window bunting, colourful pillows and even a fancy new patchwork mat for the caravan's wee tiny bathroom.
But those will have to wait for our next weekend away....
